Dear all,

As we enter the final straight of the academic year, and what is invariably the busiest period for us all, we really do hope you will get a chance to take a look at some of the exciting new developments in English at the British Council. Our bicentenary project, Sporting Nations, consisting of two exhibitions and a community choir which many of you saw perform live at FAAPI, is in full swing. We are delighted to announce that the Sporting Nations English language materials themed on this project are now ready and freely downloadable from our website. We also have lots of England football shirts to give away to your students! Read on to find out how they can win their very own jersey....

Kind regards,

Mary Godward

The Sporting Nations worksheets are now freely downloadable from the British Council website! Get your students to complete one of the activities and send in examples of their work for their chance to win their very own England football shirt! Premier Skills

Premier Skills offers teachers of English a wealth of football-themed lesson plans and ideas and recently ran a competition inviting learners of English to link their home town to an English Premier League team. One of the runners-up was Argentine Azul Giraud who produced an excellent video linking Buenos Aires to Manchester City and wins her very own Manchester City football shirt. Well done Azul!

This great little website hosts stories in powerpoint for teachers of very young learners - it can be used in class with pre-school, infant and primary levels. All the content is free, you can edit it after you've downloaded it, and there are support materials for teachers.
