IATEFL HARROGATE ONLINE 2010

The British Council and IATEFL reunite again to offer you free live online coverage of the 44th IATEFL International Conference in Harrogate-UK (07 - 11 April). Follow the conference wherever you are, join the discussion forums, or simply catch up with what you missed - visit Harrogate Online. Join now!

INNOVATION IN ELT WINNERS TRAVEL TO THE UK

Congratulations to Patricia Raimondi and Norma Cornaló who won the British Council's 2010 Innovation in ELT competition and are in the UK to visit Cambridge and attend the IATEFL conference. They submitted an excellent project teaching English to underprivileged children in Curuzú Cuatiá, culminating in an adapted theatre performance of the popular Disney movie, Pirates of the Caribbean. We would like to thank our sponsors British Airways, Cambridge ESOL and IATEFL who made this amazing opportunity possible.

PREMIER CONNECTIONS COMPETITION

A fantastic competition for learners of English aged 12 and over. Be a guest of the Premier League at a Barclays Premier League Game and win the football shirt of the team you support. Also, watch this space for the British Council Argentina's Premier Skills ELT materials; more news on this in our next newsletter.

DARÍO BANEGAS: GUEST TEACHER ON TEACHING ENGLISH

Argentina's Darío Banegas is the current Guest Teacher on the British Council's Teaching English website, where you will be able to read about him and follow discussions on his blog. Teaching English is the global home for English teaching on the web and brings together everything busy teachers need, from classroom materials to ideas for development.

WEBSITE: SIX THINGS

Lindsay Clandfield describes his blog, Six Things, as a collection of miscellany from the world of English language teaching. As well as a lot of fun entries, there are more thought-provoking pieces and ideas for the classroom too. Six - a magic number?

VOCABULARY AND AUTONOMY

Classic British comics are weekly collections of continuing picture stories for children. Many characters are so famous everyone knows them. Most comics now are American or Japanese manga, but the top three longest-running comics in the world, The Dandy, The Beano and Comic Cuts are all British. Read a history in Wikipedia, and find out more in Comics UK...
